Alli, the new and only FDA approved over-the counter weight loss pill is, according to its creator GlaxoSmithKline, not a miracle drug or a quick fix pill. GlaxoSmithKline claims that with Alli, a user can lose up to 5 pounds more per year than they would have with exercise and smart eating alone. Alli is meant to be taken during meals. According the Alli official website www.alli.com, Alli prevents around one-fourth of the fat content of the meal from being digested. The pill can only work as intended if complemented by a healthy diet and frequent exercise. Alli does come with a few side effects, which differ depending on the user. Possible side effects include gas with oily spotting, loose stools, and more frequent stools that may be hard to control. Jim Daugherty, a Food and Nutrition Instructor at Glendale Community College (GCC), believes that Alli might work as intended for certain people. "It can be beneficial to some individuals," says Daugherty, "but you have to exercise and have a healthy diet." However, Daugherty also believes that, for most people, the pill will not work correctly. "I would not recommend it because, while it may enhance the rate of weight loss somewhat, its side effects outweigh the benefits," says Daugherty
