The Dream Act doesn't feel quite right: the earmarking of federal funds to finance the higher education of illegal immigrants . . . Are you kidding me? It actually makes my Spidey-Senses tingle. Don't we waste enough tax-payer's money on "do-nothing" programs that provide very little help to the people receiving the funds, let alone the nation as a whole. To tell the truth, it sounds like another "bleeding- heart-liberal" tax-and-spend program with no real value except as self-serving political publicity stunt to garner votes from the Hispanic community come next election year. Win or lose, it will also serve to paint those who voice their opposition to be cold-hearted racists.
Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-Calif.) stated in defense of the "Dream Act", "Each year, hard working and talented students graduate from U.S. high schools, but due to their immigration status and despite having lived in this country for many years, face enormous barriers to furthering their education." I wonder if the Rep. realizes: each year, hard working and talented students graduate from U.S. high schools but despite having lived in this country their whole lives (having been born in this country) also face enormous barriers to furthering their education?
This act also forbids the states from charging "out of state" tuition for these illegals! Citizens of this nation who have legally immigrated from one state to another will have to pay triple(!) the tuition that illegal aliens will pay if this bill passes! Who could've come up with such a plan? "... (O)nly liberals could think of this!" That according to Sean Hannity, of Fox News' Hannity & Colmes, (February 21 edition), whose comment came after the Speaker of the House's appearance at what the Media Matters web-site called a "Town hall style meeting and press conference at Arizona State University" (see "Democrats takeā¦" this issue page ___.), "(during which) Pelosi specifically expressed support for the . . . (DREAM) Act." ("Town meeting?" Five speakers sharing half an hour? The only interaction came from five pre-selected questions with canned answers that only regurgitated the same hyped up propaganda that these liberals have been spewing since the Democrats seized control of congress. The press conference afterwards took longer to set up than it did to attend! And ended promptly as soon as the House Democrats' patriotism was questioned in relation to their seditious non-binding resolution of February 16, 2007)
I feel former liberal laughster cum neoconservative comic Dennis Miller had it right when he expressed in his October 26 "Real Free Speech" commentary on Fox News' Hannity & Colmes " . . . Intellectually, Nancy Pelosi is not up to the task . . . (she) no doubt would have been drummed out of the Mary Kay corps after an initial four-week evaluation period."
All good (or bad) intentions aside, this just seems to be a misguided attempt at to placate 12 Million illegal aliens & to ensure that once they are amnestied into citizenship they feel compelled to vote for the dang-dirty-democrats.
