Society has an unhealthy obsession with shifting the blame.
It was bad enough a few decades ago, as parents and other authority figures freaked out over comic books "corrupting" children. Then it was rock music. Then video games. Now, they've moved on to bashing Web sites such as YouTube.

Hillary Clinton and John McCain say the government should stop collecting taxes on gasoline purchases for the summer in order to reduce prices. Barack Obama says it's a cheap-trick that will only save you $28 in three months.
Far be it from us to interfere with the readers' right to take whatever view of that issue they please.

They call Southwestern College the "University of Second Chances," a place where good things can happen for people with the right attitude and some ambition.

Southwestern's coffee drinkers have spoken. Now it remains to be seen if the ASO will listen.
More than 1,200 members of the campus community signed a petition in favor of giving the lease to the coffee cart near the Veterans Glen to Jason Brooks, manager of the Jimmy J's cart.

Want to know the truth about Operation Sudden Fall? I wouldn't ask the Drug Enforcement Administration, the national news or even Stephen Weber, all of whom have thrown the students of San Diego State under the bus.
Last Tuesday, authorities wrapped up a year-long undercover investigation that began after an SDSU student died of a drug overdose. University officials feared this case was indicative of a larger culture of illegal drug use and invited federal agents to infiltrate the student body.

A university is a brand, complete with an image that it sells to potential customers.
Well, it's damage control time. San Diego State's brand suffered a major disaster Tuesday, when "Operation Sudden Fall" caused the national image of SDSU to suddenly plummet.

In a year of historic presidential campaigns, busted prostitution rings and economic disaster, the biggest issue of the year, to my mind, was Kanye West's much-anticipated appearance at McKale Center. Kanye's concert brought several campus issues to the fore - for instance, why hasn't the UA hosted a concert since Garth Brooks performed in 1997? The concert also placed the Associated Students of the University of Arizona under campus-wide scrutiny for their financial management after the Daily Wildcat reported a $150,000 loss from the concert.

The meteoric rise and equally cataclysmic fall of Ron Paul's campaign continues to be a source of amusement for us all.
Accomplishments of the campaign included a second-place finish at the Values Voter debate in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. and the purchase of a blimp - yes, a blimp - to advertise in New Hampshire.

Recently a reader commented on TheChaparral.com that he believed Republicans are voting for Obama because he can't beat McCain.
I value that opposing viewpoint, however divergent from reality it may be. I also value the truth though: so here it is. Rush Limbaugh, conservative demagogue extraordinaire, did in fact ask his followers to vote in Democratic primaries in his "Operation Chaos".

Every time I drive by the ARCO gas station on 68th Street, my stomach turns. Each day, I look at the listed gas prices, and each day the price for gas is raised 2 to 3 cents. Pennies may be pennies, but if you have to choose between groceries or gas to get yourself to work, those 2 to 3 cents become more than just chump change.
The speed at which gas prices are soaring has many consumers irritably stewing over questions such as, Why? What's the real cause? What is the government actually doing about it?
